Manager - Accounting Services

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Manager with strong technical accounting knowledge and leadership skills to join our Accounting Services team. This is a key role within the department, with responsibility for managing and reviewing a varied portfolio of client accounting work, providing technical guidance to the team and helping to maintain high standards of quality and client service.

The role requires a technically strong qualified accountant with excellent people skills and the ability to balance client service with the development of the team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience of reviewing accounts and resolving more complex accounting matters, together with the confidence to provide technical guidance to colleagues and work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

The role:

• Provide strong leadership, managing a diverse team with a mix of senior and junior staff, including apprentices.
• Work closely with other Managers to ensure smooth day-to-day accounting operations.
• Manage a varied portfolio of client accounting work, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed timescales.
• Oversee the preparation and review of annual accounts and related work, identifying and resolving more complex accounting issues and ensuring a high technical standard.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations and firm procedures.
• Assist clients with accounting software set-up and other general accounting issues.
• Collaborate with other departmental teams to support the effective delivery of services to clients.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance departmental efficiency, accuracy and client service.
• Provide support during tax preparation and other regulatory reporting.
• Work closely with the Accounting Services Partners, contributing ideas and identifying opportunities to support the continued development of the department and improve processes and client service.
• Assist in departmental projects and initiatives as required.

To be considered, you will need:

•Full ICAEW or ACCA qualification.
•Strong technical accounting knowledge with experience of preparing and reviewing accounts within an accountancy practice environment.
•Experience of dealing with more complex accounting matters and providing technical guidance to other members of the team.
•Previous experience in leading, managing and developing accounting staff.
•Experience of managing a portfolio of clients and building strong client relationships.
•Experience of working with healthcare clients, particularly GP practices, doctors and/or dentists, would be advantageous but is not essential.
•Proficient in a range of accounting software and MS Office, with advanced Excel skills.
•Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
•Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and third parties.
•A proactive approach, with the confidence to put forward ideas and contribute to the continued development of the department.
•Professionalism, discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
•The ability to work independently while also working collaboratively as part of a wider team.
